He started his career at Wang in sales in 1987 and left in 1996, having been Vice-President of its Network Integration Business, to join Equant, ultimately becoming. President of Markets & Sales. From 1996 to 2002, he served as President of Equant Integration Services. Since November 2006, Mr. Charlier has been a Director of Fidelity International. He has been the Director of Activision Blizzard, Inc since October 22, 2012. Mr. Charlier served as Director of Promethean World Plc until October 2012. He served as a Director of Promethean Limited. He served as a Director of Promethean Technologies Group Ltd., and Promethean, Inc. He served as a Member of Supervisory Board of Vivendi (also known as Vivendi SA) from April 24, 2008 September 2012. He served as an Executive Director of Colt Telecom Group SA from August 30, 2004 to December 13, 2006. He served as Director of Colt Telecommunications, COLT Telecom plc, and Radianz. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree, with summa cum laude achievement, from the American College in Paris.
