John R. Carruthers serves as a Co-Director of the Oregon Nanosciences and Microtechnologies Institute (ONAMI). Mr. Carruthers is a Distinguished Professor of Physics and a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Portland State University. He served as a Senior Advisor of Nanoelectronics and Molecular Electronics and Interim Department Head of Electrical and Computer Engineering for the OGI School of Science and Engineering. He served as a Manager of Materials ... Characterization Department at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories and Program Director of Microgravity Sciences Division, NASA. He spent 14 years at Bell Laboratories in semiconductor and nonlinear optical materials research from 1959 to 1963 and from 1967 to 1977. He served as Director of Components Research for Intel Corp. from 1984 to 2000, where he was credited with pushing Intel Corp. to develop the next generation of chip imprinting, extreme ultraviolet lithography and was instrumental in its development of ever-faster processors. Mr. Carruthers has been a Member of the Advisory Board of Electro Scientific Industries Inc. since February 20, 2007. He serves as a Member of the Advisory Board of Nantero, Inc. He has an extensive record of publications and involvement in industry collaborative activities, such as serving as Chair of the SRC Strategic Planning Committee from 1995 to 2000, Member of the Emerging Device Research Group of the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors since 2002, and Chair of the Technology Committee of the American Electronics Association from 1991 to 1993. Mr. Carruthers holds a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Toronto.
