Mr. Alan J. Barocas is a Senior Advisor of Real Estate Services at Bridgetown Capital Partners, LLC since April 2009. Mr. Barocas serves as Senior Executive Vice President of Mall Leasing at General Growth Properties Inc. He is the Founder and Principal at Alan J. Barocas & Associates. He was the Senior Vice President of Corporate Real Estate at Gap Inc. Here, Mr. Barocas was responsible for managing all real estate, store architecture, and construction activities for Gap, Old Navy, and Banana Republic concepts. He also helped Gap Inc. optimize their vast retail fleet, closing over 350 stores, and reducing annual occupancy costs by over $25 million, while also launching highly sophisticated market mapping tools, implementing an all-new lease management system and supporting the development, and launch of Gap’s fourth retail concept, Forth & Towne, in multiple markets. Mr. Barocas has over 30 years of retail real estate leadership experience. He sits on the Board of Directors of the Real Estate Associate Program. He has been an Independent Director of Stage Stores Inc. since January 15, 2007. Mr. Barocas is a member of the Board of Trustees for the International Council of Shopping Centers and has served as Dean of the ICSC’s University of Shopping Centers at the Wharton School. As Dean, he oversaw instruction and personally developed and taught a module on Retail Real Estate Strategies. Mr. Barocas is consistently a featured speaker and panelist in many of the organization’s conferences. He is a 1971 graduate of the State University of Albany.
