Background*

Mr. David M. Guthrie is a Partner at Fuqua Ventures and focuses on Software Infrastructure, Healthcare IT, Networking and Communications. Mr. Guthrie's extensive technology background, business management and operational experiences, and his familiarity in raising capital enable him to provide Fuqua Venture's portfolio of companies with a tremendous amount of value beyond funds. Mr. Guthrie's role includes analyzing new technology investments, strategically steering ... existing portfolio companies, and serving on the Boards of companies for which he brings the most value. He managed a highly respected team of C/C++ Engineers, System Operators, Database Developers, and IS/IT professionals, while at Healtheon-WebMD. As Senior Vice president for Integrated Media, Mr. Guthrie's division served all the content and news channels for the WebMD Consumer site ( www.webmd.com ) and its Professional site WebMD Practice. Prior to WebMD, Mr. Guthrie served as Chief Technology Officer with Medcast (a Greenberg News Networks Company). He pulled together a team, which designed, developed, and supported the launch of all of Medcast's technology. Medcast is a News and Information system, which enables physicians to receive news within their specialty in a very multi-media rich format. This Internet software automatically downloads information, via a patent pending protocol, which provides instant response for its users. WebMD purchased Medcast for $215 million in a four-way merger with WebMD, Healtheon, Medi-America, and Medcast. As a founder of Medcast, Mr. Guthrie helped develop the business plan, assemble the teams, communicate with the board, develop the technology for the product, implement the technologies for supporting operations, and raised over $44 million to fund the business. Mr. Guthrie's role included technology support for engineering, marketing, operations, finance, and field sales. Before joining Medcast, Mr. Guthrie was co-founder and president of Infinite Software Solutions (ISSI) (www.issi.net). He directed application and systems development projects for Home & Garden Television (HGTV), Philips Consumer Electronics, MCI, Westinghouse, Concentric, Duke University and SAIC. Mr. Guthrie's ISSI experiences include extensive development of Internet client/server-related applications, CD-ROM multimedia titles, patient information systems and browser technologies. At ISSI, Mr. Guthrie directed a team which designed, engineered and supported the launch of HGTV's web site ( www.hgtv.com ) , Metallica's Web Site (www.metclub.com), and Mastercraft Boat's web site ( www.mastercraft.com ). Across these sites, Mr. Guthrie's teams implemented E-commerce solutions, vast community forums, broadcast streaming technologies, scheduling applications, and live Web support for broadcasts. Mr. Guthrie serves as a Director for TheScientificWorld (www.scientificworld.com ) and Trailworks (www.trailworks.com ), serves as observer for Proficient Systems (www.proficient.com), and advises many other companies. He is a graduate from the University of Tennessee in Business Management/Information Systems.
