Mr. Manly was a member of the law firm of Sidley & Austin, as an associate from 1978 to 1985 and as a partner from 1986 to 1994. He worked in both their Chicago and Washington, D.C. offices and was involved in representing AT&T in a variety of matters, including the Bell System divestiture that occurred in 1984. He has been Director of Progress Energy Inc. since July 2012. Mr. Manly serves as Director of Duke Energy Ohio, Inc., Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC and Duke Energy Indiana, Inc. Mr. Manly holds a J.D., magna cum laude, and a M.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan, where he was a Member of the Law Review and Order of the Coif. He also holds a B.A., summa cum laude, in Economics from Amherst College, where he was Phi Beta Kappa.
