Dr. Timothy T. Stenzel, Tim, M.D., Ph.D., FACMG., has been the Chief Scientific Officer of Quidel Corp., since September 2009. Dr. Stenzel is responsible for technology assessment as well as implementing Quidel's molecular diagnostics strategy. He served as Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Diagnostics Research and Development at Asuragen, Inc. Dr. Stenzel joined Asuragen, Inc. from Abbott Laboratories where he rose to Senior Director for Medical, Regulatory, ... and Clinical Affairs at Abbott Molecular, Inc., Des Plaines, IL. Prior to Abbott Molecular/Vysis, he was an Assistant Professor of Pathology at Duke University where his research focused on cancer and genetics, as well as directed the Clinical Cytogenetic and Molecular Diagnostics Laboratories, and taught in the School of Medicine. Dr. Stenzel serves as a Director at American College of Medical Genetics Foundation. He served as Member of the ACMG/CAP Biochemical and Molecular Genetics Resource Committee from 1996 to 2005. He is a member of the following national professional organizations: ACMG, AMA, AMP, and CAP. He is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology in 1997, Clinical Molecular Genetics in 1999, and Molecular Genetic Pathology in 2001. His residency training in pathology, a NIH-funded genetics fellowship, and his fellowship in Clinical Molecular Genetics occurred at Duke as well in 1992-1999. While at Duke his research laboratory was funded by the NIH/NCI and private agencies to study the molecular genetics and develop novel molecular diagnostics testing for breast cancer and brain tumors and by the CDC to perform research in the area of performance evaluation and quality assurance in genetic testing. Dr. Stenzel graduated with honors in chemistry from Grinnell College, Grinnell, IA in 1983 and is a graduate of the Duke University Medical Scientist Training Program with MD/PhD in 1992, where he studied the molecular biology of DNA replication.
