Dr. Dale M. Edgar, PhD has been Chief Scientific Leader of Lilly's discovery sleep research program since June 12, 2007. Dr. Edgar co-founded Hypnion Inc. in 2000 and served as its Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Preclinical Research & Development since August 2000 and also served as its Chief Science Officer. He oversaw Hypnion's basic science, applied research, and technology innovations. Dr. Edgar, creator of SCORE 2004™, the world's most sophisticated ... in vivo sleep-wake drug discovery and evaluation system, which is the foundation of Hypnion's drug discovery platform. He has over 25 years of experience in the field of sleep research. Prior to joining Hypnion, he spent 15 years at Stanford University, where he served as Associate Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and Director of the Sleep and Circadian Neurobiology Laboratory. While there he developed an international reputation as one of the foremost experts in the field of sleep and circadian neurobiology and sleep-wake pharmacology. His research has been published in over sixty scientific publications, and he is a frequent lecturer on the importance of sleep-wakefulness and its impact on health care, the economy and national security. He has served as an Officer of the Sleep Research Society (USA), and as a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Biological Rhythms. He has been an Executive Director at Eli Lilly & Co. since June 12, 2006. Dr. Edgar serves as a Director of Hypnion Inc. He received his Masters degree in Biology (Integrative Physiology) while a fellow at the NASA Ames Research Center, and then received his Doctorate in Biology/Physiology from the University of California.
