Mr. Daniel G. Welch, Dan has been the Chairman of InterMune Inc., since May 13, 2008 and as its Chief Executive Officer and President since September 25, 2003. From September 1987 to August 2000, Mr. Welch held various Executive positions at Sanofi-Aventis (formerly Sanofi-Synthelabo) for 13 years and its predecessor companies Sanofi and Sterling Winthrop, including Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of U.S. operations. At Sanofi, he led the launches of the blockbuster drugs Plavix(R) and Avapro(R) for cardiovascular indications and Eloxatin(R) for cancer. In addition, during his time at Sanofi, he also led development and commercial collaborations with several major pharmaceutical companies including Bristol Myers Squibb, Organon and Eli Lilly and Company. From November 1980 to September 1987, Mr. Welch served at American Critical Care, a division of American Hospital Supply, which was subsequently acquired by DuPont Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Mr. Welch has been a Director of InterMune Inc., since September 25, 2003, Hyperion Therapeutics, Inc., since August 2012 and Seattle Genetics Inc., since June 14, 2007. He serves as a Director of BayBio and Corium International, Inc. He served as a Director of Triangle Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Mr. Welch holds a BBA Degree in Marketing from the University of Miami, and B.S. & B.A. degree from the University of Miami. He also holds an MBA from the University of North Carolina.
