He is a Professor of Pharmacology and Biochemistry/Molecular Biology at the College of Medicine at Mayo Clinic, and Director, Mayo Clinic Center for Individualized Medicine. Dr. Prendergast has been a Professor of Molecular Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics of Mayo Medical School since 1986. Since 1977, he served as an Assistant Professor in Pharmacology of the Mayo Medical School. He held several other teaching positions including Instructor of Physiology at the Mayo Medical School since 1975. Dr. Prendergast has authored more than 300 published abstracts and full papers. He has received numerous national awards, fellowships and honors including E.E. Just Awardee of the American Society of Cell Biology and the Musgrave Gold Medal of the Institute of Jamaica. In addition, he was awarded the Distinguished Lecturer in Medical Sciences awards, and recognized as an Established Investigator from the American Heart Association. Dr. Prendergast has been the recipient of Edmond and Marion Guggenheim Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 1987 and Mayo Distinguished Investigator in 1988. His research focus is on structural protein biology and bio imaging. Dr. Prendergast received an Honorary Doctorate from Purdue University. He completed his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Minnesota, in 1977; M.A. in Physiology from Oxford University in 1979; Bachelor of Arts Degree in Physiology from Oxford University in 1971; and studied degree in Medicine at the University of the West Indies in 1968.
