He served as the Chief Technology Officer, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of InSight Venture Partners. Dr. Schmidt serves as a Director of InSight Venture Partners and also served as its Member of Advisory Board. He serves as a Member of Executive Council at TechNet. Dr. Schmidt served as a Director of Apple Inc. from August 29, 2006 to July 31, 2009; Seibel Systems, Inc. (Siebel Systems Inc.) since May 1996; and a Board Member of Tilion Inc. He served as the Chairman of Google Inc. from March 2001 to April 2004 and again from April 2007 to April 3, 2011. Dr. Schmidt served as the Chairman of Novell, Inc. from April 1997 to November 2001 and also served as its Director. He serves as a Member of Advisory Board of Carnegie Mellon University and GTI Group LLC. Dr. Schmidt serves as a Trustee of Menlo School and as the Chairman of New America Foundation. In 2006, he was elected to the National Academy of Engineering, which recognized his work on “the development of strategies for the world's most successful Internet search engine company“. Dr. Schmidt is a member of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology and the Prime Minister's Advisory Council in the U.K. He was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences as a fellow in 2007. Dr. Schmidt received a Ph.D. and a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of California-Berkeley and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University.
