A specialist in structural geology and mineralogy, he is the author of numerous scientific papers, including a contribution to the Geological Society of South Africa's publication "the Mineral Deposits of South Africa". Mr. Potgieter is graduated from the University of South Africa as a Master of Business leadership in 1984 (an MBA equivalent) and holds an honours degree in geology and a masters degree in geology obtained from the Rand Afrikaans University in 1980.
