Dr. Lui was a Committee Member of the 9th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. He is supporting many charitable and educational activities in the Mainland. He was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star by the Government of the HKSAR in July 2005. He was awarded the "Outstanding Contribution Award" in Guangzhou, "Citizen of Honour" in Guangzhou, Nanjing and Jiangmen. An asteroid discovered by the Purple Mountain Observatory in Nanjing was named after Lui Che Woo in 1995 in recognition of his contribution to the development of Astrology research in China. He was honoured as the Business Person of the Year in DHL/SCMP Hong Kong Business Awards 2007 and the Lifetime Achievement Award by American Academy of Hospitality Sciences of 2007. Dr. Lui was also awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa by the University of Victoria in 2001; the degree of Doctor of Social Science, honoris causa by the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2002; an Honorary University Fellowship by the University of Hong Kong in 2002; and the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa by the University of Concordia in 2004.
