Dr. John C. Chabala, Jack PhD is a Founder of Pharmacopeia, Inc. Previously, Dr. Chabala also served as the President from 1993 to 1996 and Chief Scientific Officer from 1993 to 1997 and was responsible for all research activities, technical aspects of contract negotiations, managing scientific collaborations, and government regulatory compliance. Prior to joining Pharmacopeia, Dr. Chabala served as a Vice President of Discovery Chemistry at Bristol-Myers Squibb from ... 1991 to 1993, where he was responsible for all medicinal chemistry research worldwide in 25 programs in cardiovascular diseases, oncology, immunology and inflammation, metabolic diseases, anti-infective agents, and central nervous system diseases. Prior to that, Dr. Chabala spent over 15 years at Merck & Company, served as an Executive Director of Basic Chemistry, supervising a variety of medicinal and other chemistry programs. He was also responsible for three departments of medicinal chemistry and basic chemistry services which included approximately one half of all ongoing corporate research in animal health, antibiotics, immunology, cardiovascular agents, anti-inflammatories, and vaccines. Additionally, Dr. Chabala managed all natural product isolation and structure determination, as well as protein X-ray and NMR. He has been a Member of Scientific Advisory Board of Syndexa Pharmaceuticals Corp. since November 17, 2008. He serves as Medicinal Chemistry Advisor of Kémia, Inc. He serves on the Scientific Advisory Boards of, and as an independent Consultant to, early stage drug discovery companies and non-profit organizations, advising from the pre-clinical research and development stage through the clinical process. Dr. Chabala serves as a Member of the Management Scientific Advisory Board of Pharmacopeia, Inc. and Cytokinetics Incorporated. He serves as Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Mpex Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and NexGenix Pharmaceuticals Holdings, Inc. He serves as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board of Iconix Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Clear Therapeutics, Inc. He serves as a Scientific Advisor of Boston Millennia Partners. Dr. Chabala served as a Member of Advisory Board of Helsinn Therapeutics (U.S.), Inc. He served as a Director of Pharmacopeia. Dr. Chabala is a Member of the American Chemical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, and Sigma Xi. He has published over 40 articles and holds 26 patents. He received a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.S. in Chemistry from Bucknell University.
