Dr. Stephen Badylak, MD, Ph.D, DVM served as the Chief Scientific Officer of ACell Inc. Dr. Badylak served as the Head team Physician for the Department of Athletics at Purdue University from 1986 to 2000. He served ten years as Chairperson of a separate NIH Study Section for the Small Business Innovative Research Program. He has organized and chaired numerous scientific sessions including the Cardiomyoplasty Conference held at Purdue University in 1992 and the First, ... Second and Third SIS Symposia held in Orlando, Florida in 1996, 1998 and 2000, and Chaired the 4th SIS-ECM Symposium in Phoenix, AZ in 2002. Dr. Badylak serves as Chairman and Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Histogen Inc. He served as the Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board for Sentron Medical Ventures from 1993 to 1996. He serves as Director of Histogen Inc. He serves as a Member of Vascular Advisory Board at Humacyte, Inc. He serves as a Member of the Surgery and Bioengineering Study Section for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He serves as a Member of Research and Development Advisory Board of Tengion Inc. Dr. Badylak is a Member of the Scientific Advisory Boards to other industry leaders, including DePuy Inc. Dr. Badylak is a Member of the Scientific Review Boards for journals such as The Annals of Emergency Medicine, Journal of Biomaterials Research, Biomaterials, and Tissue Engineering. Dr. Badylak was elected Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering in 1997 and is a Charter Member of the Tissue Engineering Society. He is one of three member governors that represent the United States in the Tissue Engineering Society International. He served as the Director of the William A. Hillenbrand Biomedical Engineering Center of Purdue University from 1995 to 1998 and as a Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Biomedical Engineering until 2002. Dr. Badylak served as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He was elected Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering in 1997 and is a charter member of the Tissue Engineering Society. He serves as a Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh and Director and Deputy Director of the Center for Pre-Clinical Tissue Engineering within the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Badylak holds over 40 U.S. patents, 200 patents worldwide, has authored more than 180 scientific publications and 12 book chapters. For his contributions to his field, he has been featured in several publications and has been the recipient of multiple awards, including the Sigma Xi Scientific Society 2002 Research Award, the Pittsburgh Business Times Hero in Health Care Innovation & Research for 2005, the 2005 Carnegie Science Center Award for Excellence, and the 2005 Clemson Award from the Society for Biomaterials. Dr. Badylak received his D.V.M in 1976, M.S. in Clinical Pathology in 1978, and Ph.D. in Anatomic Pathology in 1981 from Purdue University and his MD in 1985 from Indiana University.
