Mr. Fred A. Shabel serves as the Chairman of the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation. Mr. Shabel has been with Comcast-Spectacor for 20 years. Mr. Shabel has guided the Comcast's transition form being a local sports team in an arena, to being a moving force in the Philadelphia community. Mr. Shabel serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Geriatric Center, the Central Philadelphia Development Corporation Board. He serves as an Independence Visitor Center Corporation, the Board of Trustees of the Franklin Institute, the Moore College of Art, and Friends of Rittenhouse Square. Other board memberships include One to One Mentoring and the Philadelphia Museum of Art Corporate Partners. Mr. Shabel served as a Director of the Penn Relays of University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Shabel's career in collegiate athletics began at Duke University, his alma mater, where he served as an assistant basketball coach under Vic Bubas from 1957 to 1963. He served as a Head Basketball Coach at University of Connecticut and was honored as New England Coach of the Year in 1964. Mr. Shabel has been the recipient of the Duke Alumni Award, the Penn Varsity Club Award and the Anti-Defamation League Torch of Liberty Award. Mr. Shabel served as a Penn's Athletic Director from 1967 to 1975.
