He has done work on the development of paclitaxel, docetaxel, topotecan, irinotecan, erlotinib and gefitinib among others. Dr. Rowinsky has published over 230 papers and remains actively involved in preclinical and clinical research. Among, Dr. Rowinsky's honors include receipt of the career development award of the American Cancer Society and the 6 th Annual Emil J. Freireich Award for outstanding achievement of a young researcher in clinical cancer therapeutics. Following his residency in Internal Medicine from University of California, San Diego, he completed fellowship training in medical oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Rowinsky holds a BA degree from New York University and an MD degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
