Background*

Javier Perez has been the President of MasterCard Europe Sprl of Mastercard Incorporated since March 2006. Mr. Perez is responsible for the Europe Region, encompassing 53 countries and 9,000 MasterCard member institutions. He served as the President of MasterCard Europe at MasterCard Worldwide and served as its President of Caribbean & Latin America Region since May 1, 2004. He served as President of Latin America region and caribbean region of Mastercard International ... Inc. since April 2004. He served as General Manager of customer division of MasterCard Europe Sprl. Mr. Perez was responsible for all regional business developments in Europe, including branding, distribution, sponsorship, and products. He came to MasterCard in 1996 from Banco Bilbao de Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), there he had held a number of top-level positions, including country executive for the Tokyo and Hong Kong operations. At various other times, he served as President of bank's Miami subsidiary, managing bank operations in Latin America and the Southeast United States; head of payment systems, commercial banking, and new banking products in Spain; and international area head for the Asia, Middle East, and Africa regions. Before joining MasterCard International in 1996, Mr. Perez served in executive positions at Banca Catalana, Banco Directo, Lider Direct Marketing, Lider Telemarketing, Lider Advertising, and Visa International, where he was general manager of business development for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa regions. In the past, he also served on the boards of a number a Spanish banking and insurance groups, and currently serves on the board of Carlyle Private Investments Europe. He has been Director of Europe Region Board of Mastercard Incorporated since May 2006. Mr. Perez has Master's degrees from both the ESADE University, Spain, and Thunderbird University, United States.
