Ms. Julie Castro Abrams has been the Chief Executive Officer of Women's Initiative since joining in January 2002. Ms. Abrams led Women's Initiative's transition from a founder-led organization. She become a national leader in microenterprise and is heavily involved in the development and advocacy of the field. She serves on the Board of the California Association for Microenterprise Opportunity, CAMEO, and is a highly sought-after speaker and expert on microenterprise ... in the U.S. With more than 20 years of experience in the women's community and non-profit sector, Ms. Abrams is an exceptional leader with strong resource development and financial management skills. She served as Deputy Director and Director of Development and Marketing at Chicago's Merit School of Music. She serves as a Director at National Council Of La Raza, Inc. Her previous positions include Director of Development at Community Christian Alternative Academy and Principal at the Catalyst Group consulting firm. She has also held positions with the Illinois Pro-Choice Alliance, the Chicago Department of Health and the Chicago Foundation for Women. She serves as a Member of Advisory Board of One PacificCoast Bank. Prior to relocating to San Francisco, Ms. Abrams served on the Board of Directors of numerous organizations, including the Treasurer of Mujeres Latinas En Accion and the Chair of Chicago's Neighborhood Cultural and Fine Arts Centers. Her graduate studies were in Business and Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago and her undergraduate work in the school of Education in Human Development and Social Policy at Northwestern University.
