Mr. Leslie G. Fagen is a current Trustee at Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. Leslie Gordon Fagen joined Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP in 1976 and became a partner in its Litigation Department in 1982. He is co-chair of the department and serves as a member of the firm's Management Committee. ... the last 28 years, he has litigated on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants at the trial and appellate level in federal and state courts in multiple jurisdictions and has had extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution proceedings. He has advised a number of corporate clients on product liability issues in litigations and mediations. He has represented one of the world's largest medical device manufacturers in product liability defense work all over the country including class action litigation in Texas, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, California, Illinois, Florida, South Carolina and Oklahoma. By court appointment, he represents all future claimants who will fall victim to asbestos-related disease in connection with a class action to restructure the Manville Personal Injury Settlement Trust. He has represented defendants in purported class action litigations in Alabama, North Carolina and Pennsylvania in cases relating to allegedly defective building products. He participated in the prosecution of claims relating to the high-speed "Acela" transit cars used on Amtrak's northeast corridor and fleets of defective transit cars and buses sold for use in the City of New York for the region's Metropolitan Transportation Authority. He has represented parties in connection with litigations concerning allegedly defective components used in nuclear power plants in several locations in the United States and abroad. He has litigated and mediated construction-related lawsuits with respect to waste disposal and entertainment facilities. He has represented clients in major antitrust litigations alleging monopolization, attempted monopolization, price fixing, predatory pricing and other violations of law. Most recently, he has litigated cases in New York and Texas concerning the retail tracking and medical device markets. Mr. Fagen has counseled clients on a broad range of copyright, trademark, patent and other intellectual property related matters. He prosecuted or defended claims of copyright infringement made in connection with the motion pictures The Truman Show, Harlem Nights, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Coming to America and Regarding Henry, and the television programs, "Survivor", "Hard Copy", "Cold Case", "Switched" and "Big Brother" and musical works. Mr. Fagen has litigated or advised on matters concerning the trademarks "Calvin Klein," "Polo," "Berlitz," "Body Shop," "Comedy Central", "Colourings" and "Piaget." He has represented companies in the publishing fashion and cosmetic industries in trademark and licensing negotiations and disputes here, in Europe and the Far East. Mr. Fagen has litigated cutting edge disputes relating to defective products and environmental insurance, winning summary judgment on several coverage issues of first impression in the courts of the State of New York. He has defended the constitutionality of municipal real property taxation systems before the New York State Court of Appeals. He has represented defendants in major Rule 10b-5, initial public offerings and insider trading litigations and investigations. He has also participated in litigating or resolving numerous employment related litigations. Lastly, Mr. Fagen has represented a number of New York's most prominent art dealers and owners in significant art disputes. Mr. Fagen is a member of the Bar of the State of New York and the District of Columbia and is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the United States Courts of Appeal for the Second, Third, Fifth, Seventh and Federal Circuits and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Fagen is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is a member of the Association of The Bar of the City of New York where he has served on several committees, including the Committees on the Judiciary, State Legislation and Transportation. He also is a member of the American Bar Association and has been a member of the New York State Bar Association Section of Commercial and Federal Litigation, where he served as chairman of the Committee on Magistrate Judges. Mr. Fagen is a director of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and a member of the Board of Trustees of Maimonides Medical Center. He has served as former Trustee, President and Vice Chairman of The Educational Alliance, Inc., a multi-disciplinary social service agency. Mr. Fagen graduated from Yale College in 1971 and Columbia Law School in 1974. Following law school, he clerked for Judge Jack B. Weinstein of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
