Background

Mr. Martin C. Faga served as the Secretary of Space Foundation until January 20, 2010. Mr. Faga served as the Chief Executive Officer and President at The MITRE Corporation from May 2000 to June 2006. He directs The MITRE's activities, primarily the operation of three Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs), The Department of Defense (DOD) FFRDC focuses on Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence (C3I); the Federal Aviation Administration ... FFRDC on air traffic management; and the Internal Revenue Service FFRDC on enterprise modernization. Mr. Faga served as Executive Vice President of The Mitre and served as its Senior Vice President and General Manager of its Center for Integrated Intelligence Systems, one of the three units operating under the DOD FFRDC. He served as Vice President of MITRE from 1993 to 2000. Before joining MITRE, Mr. Faga served as Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for space from 1989 to 1993, where he was responsible for overall supervision of its space matters with primary emphasis on policy, strategy, and planning. At the same time, he served as Director of the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), responsible to the secretary of defense and the director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for the development, acquisition, and operation of all U.S. satellite reconnaissance programs. Other facets of his career include service as a Staff Member of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence of the House of Representatives, where he headed the Program and Budget Staff. He served as an Engineer at the CIA for several years and a Research and Development Officer in the Air Force. He has been Vice Chairman of Space Foundation since January 20, 2010. Mr. Faga has been Independent Director of Alliant Techsystems Inc., since October 30, 2006. He has been a Director\Trustee of HP Enterprise Services, LLC (formerly Electronic Data Systems, LLC) since September 8, 2006. He serves as Director of Space Foundation and DigitalGlobe, Inc. He served as a Trustee at The MITRE Corporation (a/k/a The MITRE) since 2000. He also served as a Director of GeoEye, LLC. He served on the Board of directors of the Security Affairs Support Association and the Open Geographic Information Systems Consortium. He also served on the Commission for the Protection and Reduction of Government Secrecy, the Jeremiah Panel to review the mission and organization of the NRO, the NRO Panel on Satellite Lifetimes, and the Defense Science Board Task Force on Satellite Reconnaissance. He serves as a Member of Strategic Advisory Council at The SI Organization, Inc. He serves on the National Commission for the Review of the NRO. Mr. Faga is awarded the National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal, the DOD Distinguished Public Service Medal, the Air Force Exceptional Civilian Service Medal, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Distinguished Service Medal. Mr. Faga received his MS and BS Degrees in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University in 1964 and 1963, respectively.
