Dr. Ora Hirsch Pescovitz, M.D. has been Chief Executive Officer at University of Michigan Health System since 2009. Dr. Pescovitz is responsible for the leadership and management of the Health System, which includes the U-M Hospitals and Health Centers, the U-M Medical School, clinical services of the U-M School of Nursing, and the Michigan Health Corp. Dr. Pescovitz leads a number of major initiatives, including developing the 174-acre North Campus Research Complex (NCRC) into a national – even international – research hub and opening the new C.S. Mott Children’s and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital in 2012. Dr. Pescovitz served as the President and Chief Executive Officer at Riley Hospital for Children, since September 2004 until 2009. She serves as a Director at Life Technologies Corporation. She also served as an Executive Associate Dean of Research Affairs at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Pescovitz served as an Interim Vice President for Research Administration at the Indiana University since August 2007. She was also the first Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs at the University of Michigan. She is currently a Member of the Advisory Board of CHV Capital, Inc. Dr. Pescovitz was a Member of Scientific Advisory Board of Heron Capital Venture Capital. Dr. Pescovitz is also the Edwin Letzter Professor of Pediatrics and a Professor of Cellular and Integrative Physiology at the IU School of Medicine. She serves on the Boards of the Herron School of Art and the Borns Jewish Studies program at Indiana University. She is also a Member of the Ad-Hoc Group for Medical Research Funding. Dr. Pescovitz administers the IU School of Medicine's research program and oversees the Indiana Genomics Initiative. She served as the Director of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology at IU School of Medicine and Riley Hospital, from 1990 to 2004. She has served as the President of the Society for Pediatric Research and Lawson Wilkins (North American) Pediatric Endocrine Society, the Chair of the March of Dimes Grants Review Committee, a Member of the Ad-Hoc Group for Medical Research Funding, the Board of the Hormone Foundation, the Board of the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI), and the Board of the Children’s Miracle Network. She is a nationally recognized pediatric endocrinologist and researcher who has published nearly 170 scientific papers on work primarily related to human growth and pubertal development and more than 175 manuscripts that primarily focus on elucidating the physiologic and molecular mechanisms responsible for disorders of growth and puberty, with a focus on development of novel therapies for these conditions. Her awards include a Research Career Development Award from the National Institutes of Health; Indiana University School of Medicine's highest teaching award; the Science Medal of Distinction from the IUPUI School of Science; the 2004 Distinguished Alumni Award from Northwestern's Feinberg School of Medicine; recognition by the Indianapolis Business Journal as one of the nation’s Top Doctors, a Power Player in Indianapolis and one of the Most Influential Women in Indiana; the iWOMAN Trailblazer Award; and the Women and HiTech Award and the Health, Medicine, Life Sciences 2006 Torchbearer Award from the Indiana Commission for Women; the Spirit of the Prairie Award from the Connor Prairie Living History Museum, Indiana Senate and House of Representatives Concurrent Resolution No. 007 Recognizing Career and Community Contributions; the Indiana University President’s Medal for Sustained Excellence; a Sagamore of the Wabash traditional Indiana honor for excellence given by the Governor of Indiana and a Red Shoes Award from the Riley Hospital for Children. More recently, Dr. Pescovitz was named one of Modern Healthcare's 2009 Top 25 Women in Healthcare, recognition as one of Crain’s 2009 “Women to Watch” and nomination for Modern Healthcare’s list of the “100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare.” As a physician, Dr. Pescovitz continues to see young patients in her specialty of endocrinology. She received a medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School, Chicago. Dr. Pescovitz holds an M.D.
