From 1988-2001 she was a researcher with Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies (formerly AT&T Bell Laboratories). She received her BS in Mathematics, and her MS and PhD in Computer Science, from Stanford University. Her ... research interests include optimization, linear algebra, numerical and scientific computing, and scientific and engineering applications. She received a Doctorate in Mathematics honoris causa from the University of Waterloo in 2003. Wright was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1997, to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2001, and as an inaugural Fellow of the Institute of Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS) in 2002. She was named a Bell Labs Fellow in 1999. During 1995 and 1996 she served as president of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). She received the Award for Distinguished Service to the Profession from SIAM in 2000 and the Award for Distinguished Public Service from the American Mathematical Society in 2001. She chairs the Advanced Scientific Computing Advisory Committee for the Office of Science, Department of Energy, and was recently a member of the Blue Ribbon Panel on Cyber Infrastructure for the National Science Foundation. She is editor-in-chief of SIAM Review and an associate editor of the "SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing," the "SIAM Journal on Optimization," and "Mathematical Programming.
