Mr. Stephen L. Tomlin, Steve, is the Managing Director at Avalon Ventures. Mr. Tomlin joined Avalon Ventures in 2001 and concentrates on wireless, information technology, media technology, and software investments. Mr. Tomlin founded Chumby Industries, Inc. and served as its Chairman and acting Chief Executive Officer. He has been an entrepreneur, senior executive, and investor in wireless technology, biotechnology, and Internet industries for over 20 years. From 1998 ... to 2000, Mr. Tomlin was a Vice-President of America Online, Inc. From 1994 to 1998, he was a Co-Founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer at PersonaLogic, Inc. During 1993 and 1994, Mr. Tomlin was a Vice-President and General Manager of Interactive Technology for QVC Inc., where he was responsible for all aspects of creating and managing QVC's interactive shopping business. From 1991 to 1993, Mr. Tomlin was the Director of New Business Development for Walt Disney Computer Software. His previous work experience includes investment banking at Shearson Lehman Brothers, Inc., strategic planning and business development for Castle & Cooke, Inc., and several new business start-ups. Mr. Tomlin serves as a Director of StackIQ, Inc., MOGL Loyalty Services, Inc., Proximal Data, Inc., Uwanna, CardApe, InterCasting Corporation and E-Band Communications Corporation. Mr. Tomlin is a Board Observer at Vocera Communications and Ortiva Wireless, Inc. and was an early organizer of the San Diego Entrepreneurs' Roundtable. He is also a member of the San Diego Venture Group. He served as a Director of Awarepoint Corporation. He is active and well known in San Diego's high technology and telecommunications community. Mr. Tomlin was the Chairman of San Diego Telecom Council's Chief Executive Officer Roundtable and a Director of CommNexus San Diego (formerly the San Diego Telecom Council). Mr. Tomlin serves on the final judging panel for CONNECT's annual Most Innovative Product awards. He is a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Francis Parker School in San Diego, CA and is a Member of the Board of Trustees and Treasurer of the Core Knowledge Foundation in Charlottesville, VA. Mr. Tomlin received an M.B.A. from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration in 1987 and graduated, cum laude, with a B.A. in American Studies from Yale University in 1983.
