Mr. Norman Bacal has been a Partner of Heenan Blaikie LLP since 1987 and its National Co-Managing Partner since 1997. Mr. Bacal focuses his practice on tax law and is considered a leading expert in taxation issues related to the Canadian and international entertainment industry. His clientele includes film studios and broadcasters, and he has been active on various entertainment industry committees. Over the course of his career, Mr. Bacal has represented the entertainment ... industry before the Finance Committee of the House of Commons and has written extensively on various tax subjects, particularly related to the Canadian film and television industry. He speaks regularly on tax issues in Canada and in the U.S., and has chaired various conferences on the Canadian communications industry as well. Over the past two years, Heenan Blaikie’s key achievement in the Greater Toronto community has been to pioneer, in conjunction with the Mayor’s Office, an internship program for “at-risk” Toronto youth. Through that program, Heenan Blaikie’s Toronto office has hired over 16 young interns, giving them valuable work experience and training. Mr. Bacal has been an Independent Director of Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. since December 10, 2004. He serves as a Director of Hollywood America Cinemas, Inc. Mr. Bacal received an LL.B. from the University of McGill in 1980.
