Background
Mr. Mark A. Wallace has been Chief Executive Officer and President of Texas Children’s Hospital since 1989. Mr. Wallace is responsible for leadership and management of the overall Integrated Delivery System, development and implementation of policies and programs as delegated by the board of trustees, development and recommendation of strategic objectives, support of the highest possible standard of care and service, coordination with a medical staff of more than 1,550
... physicians, and upholding the affiliation agreement with Baylor College of Medicine. In 1994, Mr. Wallace initiated the Texas Children’s Hospital's corporate restructuring and development of the Texas Children’s Hospital Integrated Delivery System, comprised of seven corporations including the hospital. Mr. Wallace served as Senior Vice President of The Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. As an Administrative Resident at The Methodist Hospital, he displayed extraordinary potential as a healthcare executive and also served as its Assistant Vice President. He served as Vice President of The Methodist Hospital and given responsibility for the majority of the hospital's staff and support departments, including human resources, public affairs, medical records, legal and governmental affairs, and communications. He served as Senior Vice President in charge of Methodist's Staff Services Division and since August 1983, he served as its Senior Vice President and given full responsibility for this operating division. In 1992, he served as President of Children's Hospital Association of Texas (CHAT) and served as its Chairman from 2002 to 2003. He also served as the Chairman of the board of trustees of THA, the Texas Hospital Association from 1998 to 1999. Mr. Wallace served as Chairman of the Board of the Greater Houston Hospital Council from 1993 to 1994. He served as corporate walk Chairman of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation's 2000 Walk to Cure Diabetes. Mr. Wallace serves as Vice Chairman of the Partnership's Flood Control Task Force. He serves as Director of Greater Houston Community Foundation. He serves as Director of World Health & Golf Association., National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI), and Greater Houston Partnership. He serves as a Director of Greater Houston Partnership and Amegy Bank National Association. He served as a Member of the Advisory Board at Murphree Venture Partners. In addition, Mr. Wallace is an active member of the Second Baptist Church in Houston, the Young President' Organization, and the Houston Country Club. He served as Director of Zoological Society of Houston, the board of governors of the Houston Forum, and Sam Houston Area Council Boy Scouts Of America. He served as member of the board of the Texas Gulf Coast chapter of the March of Dimes Foundation and served as Chairman of the March of Dimes Walk America 1993 campaign in Houston. In 1987, he was a recipient of the prestigious “Emerging Leaders in Health Care“ award. Mr. Wallace's receive the “Profile in Excellence Award“ in 1988, and in 1992, he was the recipient of the university’s “Alumni Achievement Award,” which honors outstanding alumni for special achievements and loyal service in their specific fields. In 1990, Mr. Wallace was elected to the Young President' Organization, recognizing chief executive officers of corporations with substantial revenues who are under 40. In 1992, the American College of Healthcare Executives awarded Mr. Wallace the Robert S. Hudgens Memorial Award as the 1992 “Young Healthcare Executive of the Year,“ which recognizes and honors young healthcare executives who have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities. He has testified before numerous government agencies as an advocate for children's healthcare and the funding of children’s health programs. Mr. Wallace championed the effort to pass legislation establishing the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) in Texas. He received his bachelor's degree from Oklahoma Baptist University. He received his master's degree from Washington University. Mr. Wallace is a Fellow of American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).
