Mr. David J. Becker, Dave is a Co-Founder and serves as Managing Director of Meakem Becker Venture Capital, LLC. Mr. Becker serves as Strategic Advisor of BitArmor Systems, Inc. He sourced and co-led Meakem Becker Venture Capital’s first two investments. Most recently, Mr. Becker served as the President and Chief Investment Officer of Clearwater Capital Management LLC, where he sourced, led, and managed a remarkable wave of early-stage venture investments that include ... Kiva Systems, Bantu, Bit Armor, and Tiversa and continues to advise these companies. In the mid-1990 through 2003, Mr. Becker refined his talents as a Business Executive and an E-commerce innovator as a Member of the Leadership Team of FreeMarkets, Inc. He served as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of FreeMarkets, Inc. since March 1998 and October 2002 respectively. As the Chief Operating Officer of FreeMarkets, he managed all operations for FreeMarkets including software development and service delivery during the company’s growth from $8 million to almost $200 million of revenue and to over 1,200 employees based around the world. He was also a key member of the team that brought FreeMarkets public in 1999. Mr. Becker’s early professional experience includes financial and management roles for Dole Fresh Fruit International Ltd in Costa Rica, where he managed a team that developed and ran a global information network that became the backbone of Dole Latin America’s logistics and supply chain management systems. In the 1980’s Mr. Becker served as a Senior Engineer with Union Carbide Corporation. He serves as a Director of Bantu, Inc., Hotpads,Inc., Shipwire, Leostream Corporation, Kiva, and Multi-Family Media, Inc. and also advises LiquidTalk and Hotpads.com as a Board Member. Mr. Becker is a Director of The Pittsburgh Venture Capital Association. He serves as a Director of Kiva Systems, Inc. Mr. Becker has been a Director of Shipwire, Inc. (a/k/a Shipwire, LLC) since June 2007. As a community leader in the City of Pittsburgh, his work includes volunteer service on the Boards of The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Western Pennsylvania. Mr. Becker also completed two active duty tours of duty as an Officer in the United States Army Reserve. His pioneering work on e-commerce methods and inventions has resulted in 16 U.S. patents. In 1991, Mr. Becker received an M.B.A. from Harvard University. He holds an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Marshall University (formerly West Virginia College of Graduate Studies) and a B.S. with high distinction in Chemical and Petroleum Refining Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.
