He was named Co-Chair of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform in 2010. Before serving in the White House in 1993, he was Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration. Mr. Bowles served as White House Chief of Staff from 1996 to 1998 and Deputy White House Chief of Staff from 1994 to 1995. He also served as a member of the President's Cabinet and on both the National Security Council and the National Economic Council. Mr. Bowles served as the Chairman of the NC Rural Prosperity Task Force. He was a Trustee of the Golden LEAF Foundation, Vice Chairman of Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, and Trustee of the Duke Endowment. Mr. Bowles was a Co-Chair of President Barack Obama's bipartisan National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform from February 2010 to December 2010. Mr. Bowles holds an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School, where he was a McKinsey Scholar and holds a B.S. in business from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
