Mr. Kenneth B. Lee Jr., CPA, Ken serves as General Partner at Hatteras Venture Partners. Mr. Lee joined Hatteras Venture Partners in 2003. He is a Co-Founder and General Partner at Hatteras Venture Partners II, L.P and Hatteras Venture Partners III, L.P. He is a Consultant and Advisor to various life sciences companies since 2001. He has over 35 years of experience counseling management teams, boards of directors and investors of technology-based companies worldwide. ... He established a career over 29 years advising biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies throughout the world on financial transactions and strategic plans. Previously, he served as the President at Pappas Ventures from January 2002 to June 2002 and also served as President of A. M. Pappas Life Science Ventures II and A.M. Pappas Life Science Ventures III, L.P. He got his start in biotech as part of the first audit team of Genentech in 1976. Mr. Lee is a Co-Founder of Ernst & Young LLP, where he served for 29 years and was instrumental in the founding and development of the Ernst & Young life science practice in the San Francisco Bay Area. He served as a Co-Head of International Life Sciences for Ernst & Young. He advised numerous high profile life science companies with their initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic financings. Among others, these included: Affymax, Affymetrix, Applied ImmuneSciences, Chiron, Circadian, Genentech, Heartport, Systemix, ALZA, and Collagen. From September 1972 to December 2001, he was a Partner and employee at Ernst & Young LLP and Ernst & Young Capital Advisors LLC. While at Ernst & Young LLP, he also served as the Managing Director of Health Sciences Corporate Finance Group from 2000 to 2001, Transaction Advisor of their Center for Strategic Transactions from 1997 to 2000, and Co-Head and Co-Chairman of their International Life Sciences Practice from 1995 to 1997. Mr. Lee co-founded and managed the firm's National Life Sciences Practice from his location in the San Francisco Bay area. He has a proven ability to generate proprietary deal flow through his three decades of relationships with the leading venture capital firms and key industry executives worldwide. He also possesses unique exit experience as a Special Advisor to the leading U.S. biotechnology companies including Genentech, ALZA, and Collagen, among many others. He served as an Audit Partner and Advisor for several venture capital firms including MedVenture Associates, Paribas Ventures, and Sanderling Ventures. He has advised many industry companies on their captive venture capital activities. He serves as Chairman at Clinipace Worldwide, Inc. He has been the Chairman of Inspire Pharmaceuticals Inc. since February 17, 2005. He served as Inspire Pharmaceuticals's Interim Chairman since February 15, 2005. Mr. Lee served as the Vice Chairman of Inspire Pharmaceuticals Inc. He also served as a Vice Chairman on the Emerging Companies Section of the Board of the Biotechnology Industry Organization and Board of the California Healthcare Institute. He has been a Director of Maxygen, Inc. since September 18, 2009. He serves on the Board of IncHemocellular Therapeutics Inc., Visitors of Lenoir-Rhyne College, Board of the North Carolina Biotechnology Industry Organization, and the Board of Visitors of the Lineberger Cancer Center of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
