Mr. Chester A. Gougis is a Managing Partner of Cognitive Capital Partners, LLC. He is also a Founding Partner of Cognient Group, LLC and Cognitive Capital Partners, LLC. Mr. Gougis was also employed at HCP&Company. Previously, He served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Duff & Phelps. Mr. Gougis was the Leader of D&P consulting and investment banking business for over 20 years. He grew business from less than $4 million in revenue in 1987 to over $250 million ... in 2006. Mr. Gougis joined Duff & Phelps in 1979 from the Corporate Finance Group of Harris Trust and Savings Bank. He has served as the Vice Chairman of Duff & Phelps. Under Mr. Gougis’s directions Duff & Phelps invested $30 milllion in National Oilwell. In addition, he partnered with Freeman Spogli & Co. to complete the 1989 buyout of Duffs & Phelps Corp. and is responsible for the 1996 management buyout of Duffs & Phelps from the Phoenix Co.s. He also led the sale of Duffs & Phelps, LLC to Webster Bank in 2000 and the subsequent repurchase of Duffs & Phelps in 2004 and the acquisition of Standard & Poor’s Corporate Value Consulting group. Mr. Gougis is a nationally recognized expert on family financial issues. He is a Director of Tooling Technologies, LLC and VSA Partner, Inc. Mr. Gougis has served on the board of Trustees of Loyola University Family Business Centre. He sits on the Board of Trustees of the Network Chicago, Ravinia, and the Greater Chicago Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. He is a Chairman of The Night Ministry and sits on the Board of Chicago Symphony Orchestra and WTTW – Channel 11. Mr. Gougis is a Member of the Commercial Club; Economics Club of Chicago; The ESOP Association; National Center for Employee Ownership; Valuation Study Group; Executive Club of Chicago; and the Business Valuation Association. He is affiliated with the Chicago Urban League. Mr. Gougis has spoken on family business issues at numerous conferences sponsored by Harris Bank, Northern Trust, Northwestern University, Family Business Magazine, and the ESOP Association. He received an M.B.A. in Finance and Accounting, with Honors, in 1976 from the University of Chicago and a B.A. in Economics, magna cum laude, from Harvard University in 1974.
