Background

Mr. Alfred S. Chuang co-founded Magnet Systems, Inc. in 2008 and serves as its Chief Executive Officer and Director. Mr. Chuang founded BEA Systems Inc. in 1995 and served as its Chairman since August 2002, President and Chief Executive Officer since October 2001. Prior to this, Mr. Chuang served various executive positions, including Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President of Product Development and Chief Technology Officer. As Founder and Head of the computer ... resources center for Sun Intercontinental Operations, he helped establish key subsidiaries in the Pacific Rim. He was BEA's Chief Technology Officer, Executive Vice President of product development, President of BEA WebXpress, President of Business Operations and President and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Chuang served in various positions from 1986 to 1994 at Sun Microsystems, Inc., including Chief Technology Officer of Sun Integration Services and Corporate Director of Strategic Systems Development of its Middleware Group. Prior to Sun, Mr. Chuang spent more than ten years in commercial computing, software systems research, and systems consulting. He is a well-known expert on enterprise information technology rightsizing and distributed data management and has published many technical papers. Mr. Chuang had led the areas of finance, sales, services, engineering, product development, MIS, corporate development, business planning, developer services, human resources and global operations. Mr. Chuang pioneered and prototyped the implementation of the TCP IP protocols on the IBM PC platform. He served as a Director of BEA Systems Inc., a holding of Plumtree Software Inc. Mr. Chuang serves as a Member of Executive Advisory Board of Netcontinuum, Inc. Mr. Chuang is a Trustee for the University of San Francisco. He served as a Director of TeaLeaf Technology, Inc. His graduate thesis, "Table-Tabular Data Objects and their Use in Table Editing," remains one of California State Library's most frequently used reference materials on relational database development. His notable awards includes: C/F Silicon Valley Philanthropist of the Year 2003; SD Forum Visionary Award 2003; CIO Magazine 20/20 Vision Award Honoree 2002; Community Star from Asian Americans for Community Involvement 2002; eChina Forum Silicon Valley Award Honoree 2001 and Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year finalist 1998. Mr. Chuang holds a B.S in Computer Science from University of San Francisco and an M.S. in Computer Science with specialization in Distributed Data Management from University of California, Davis.
