Mr. Jack Sweeney served as the Publisher and President of Houston Chronicle Publishing Company until February 1, 2012 and until January 1, 2012. Mr. Sweeney served as Director of sales and marketing in 1983, vice president of sales and marketing in 1986 and vice president and general manager in 1991. In 1998, he served as president of the Chronicle and associate publisher and then named publisher and president in 2000. He has been the Chairman of Houston Chronicle Publishing ... Company since February 1, 2012. Mr. Sweeney serves as a Director of Greater Houston Partnership. Mr. Sweeney's numerous civic duties have included leadership roles with United Way of Texas Gulf Coast, Greater Houston Partnership, the Houston Image Group, the Children's Assessment Center Foundation, the Houston Symphony, the Houston International Festival and the Better Business Bureau. He received the group's prestigious Pat Taggart Newspaper Executive of the Year Award given annually to Texas' leading newspaper executive. He graduated from King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., with a Bachelor's degree in English and began his newspaper career in the advertising department of The Washington Post in 1968.
