Lou F. Von Thaer serves as President of General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, Inc. of Axsys Technologies, Inc. Mr. Von Thaer serves as Corporate Vice President of General Dynamics, the Holding company of General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, Inc. Mr. Von Thaer served as Senior Vice President of Operations for General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems. In that role he was Deputy to the President and responsible for performance and acquisition integration ... across it. Additional responsibilities included program management, information technology and manufacturing. Until November 2003, Mr. Von Thaer served as Vice President and General Manager of the Surveillance and Reconnaissance Systems strategic business unit. Under Mr. Von Thaer's leadership, it won several strategic contracts, including the nearly $300 million Integrated Computer Systems program for the Army's Future Combat Systems. In addition, it began developing collaborative sensor networks for the Army's Intelligent Munitions System program and expanded its role as the mission computing provider for the F/A-18, and other air and space platforms. Mr. Von Thaer joined General Dynamics as Vice President of Engineering and Chief Technical Officer when his previous employer, the Advanced Technology Systems division of Lucent Technologies, was acquired. Mr. Von Thaer served as senior vice President for Advanced Technology Systems, responsible for all government programs, engineering, manufacturing, quality, contracting, and procurement. Mr. Von Thaer had worked at Lucent and its predecessor, AT&T Bell Laboratories, since 1983. Mr. Von Thaer holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Kansas State University and a master's degree in electrical engineering from Rutgers University. He serves as a Member of the Defense Science Board at United States Department Of Defense. He serves as a board observer for Multiplex, Inc., a fiber optic component company. He is a Member of IEEE and the Optical Society of America, and has previously held advisory or board positions for the International Engineering Consortium, International Council on Systems Engineering, and Systems and Software Consortium.
