Background

Prof. Michael J. Cima, Ph.D., is a Co-founder of Taris Biomedical, Inc. and serves as its Consultant. Mr. Cima is a Co-founder of SpringLeaf Therapeutics, Inc. and serves as its Consultant. Dr. Cima serves as a Senior Consultant and Senior Advisor of Transform Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and serves as its Member of Management Team. He is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and an Investigator at the Koch Institute ... for Integrative Cancer Research at MIT. He was co-founded Microchips Inc., in 1999. He is Co-Founder of Entra Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He co-founded T2 Biosystems, Inc. He has been the Principle Investigator on several multimillion-dollar Defense research projects and many other sponsored research programs at MIT. His recent research is primarily in four areas: advanced forming technology, ceramic thin film processing, MEMS devices for medical electronics and drug delivery, high-throughput development methods for formulations of materials. Forming methods for complex macro and micro devices are of particular interest including MIT's three-dimensional printing process. His research group is one of the leaders in the development of chemically derived epitaxial oxide films for HTSC coated conductors. Dr. Cima and collaborators are developing implantable MEMS devices for unprecedented control in the delivery of pharmaceuticals. His group has been working on methods to speed the development of materials systems that are based on complex formulations. Finally, through his consulting work, he has been a major contributor to the development of a high throughput system for discovery of novel crystal forms of pharmaceuticals. He has recently been awarded the Sumitomo Electric Industries Chair at MIT. He had been a Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Semprus BioSciences Corp. since March 2010. He serves as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board at MicroCHIPS, Inc. He serves as a Director of Entra Pharmaceuticals, Inc., SpringLeaf Therapeutics, Inc. and Convergence Products Research Laboratory. He serves as a Director of T2 Biosystems, Inc. and Taris Biomedical, Inc. and serves as its Scientific Advisor. He also serves as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board of T2 Biosystems, Inc. He serves as a Member of Biomaterials Advisory Panel at ETEX Corporation. He served as a Director of MicroCHIPS, Inc. Dr. Cima served as Director of the Ceramics Processing Research Laboratory since 1989. He received the Norton Chair at MIT in 1988 in the Materials Science and Engineering Department as an Assistant Professor. He is author or co-author of over one hundred and eighty scientific publications, thirty-seven patents, and is a recognized expert in the field of materials processing. Dr. Cima received a tenured appointment from MIT in 1992. He is actively involved in materials and engineered systems for improvement in human health -- such as treatments for cancer, metabolic diseases, trauma and urological disorders. He is the recipient of many prominent awards and honors, including the Fulrath Award, International Award of Materials Engineering for Resources and R&D 100 Award for 3DP Applied to Metal Casting. He was elected a Fellow of the American Ceramics Society in 1997. Dr. Cima earned a B.S. in Chemistry in 1982 (phi beta kappa) and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 1986, both from the University of California at Berkeley.
