Inc., where he was responsible for leadership of global marketing and new product planning and was a core participant in many corporate licensing, divestiture, and product acquisition deals. Dr. Nichtberger held a number of senior management positions at Merck including: leadership of the global marketing organization with responsibility for developing and setting strategy for all Merck brands globally through the efforts of 350 employees and a $200 million budget; operational leadership of the Merck hypertension franchise comprised of six brands, with full P&L responsibility for the franchise; and leadership of the New Products Group with responsibility for development of strategy for all pipeline products at Merck. He also had extensive experience and interaction with the Research and Manufacturing Divisions during his career at Merck. Dr. Nichtberger was the lead marketing executive on many corporate licensing, divestiture, and product acquisition teams at Merck, including the core team that established the Merck-Schering-Plough partnerships around Zetia and Vytorin. He founded, developed, and managed a profitable privately held company based upon a patented paperless coupon system. Dr. Nichtberger is a successful founding entrepreneur and board certified internist and cardiologist at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. Dr. Nichtberger served as Chair of The Pennsylvania Biotechnology Association and serves as its Director. He serves as a Director of BioAdvance. He serves as an Executive Director at IntelliRad Control, Inc. He has been a Director and Member of Health Section Governing Board at Biotechnology Industry Organization since July 2011. He served as a Director of Tengion Inc. since May 2004 until June 30, 2011. He received a B.A. in Biology from University of Pennsylvania and B.S. in Economics and Entrepreneurial Management from Wharton School. Dr. Nichtberger holds an M.D. from School of Medicine and Biosciences, SUNY at Buffalo.
