Background

Mr. Joseph C. Shenker, Joe has been a Partner of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP since 1986 and also its Chairman since January 1, 2010. Mr. Shenker specializes in commercial real estate transactions and securities law and has substantial experience in mergers and acquisitions and negotiated joint ventures involving public and private property operating companies. He has additional experience in real estate development, acquisitions, dispositions and financing of individual ... properties as well as of large property portfolios in North and South America, Europe and Asia. He served as a Vice Chairman of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP since February 2006. He is a Trustee at The Mount Sinai Hospital. Among his pro bono and community activities, he is the President-Elect of the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty - one of New York City's largest poverty aid organizations - and is a Member of the Board at Jewish Community Relations Council and of the Steering Committee of the Lawyers' Division of the UJA. Mr. Shenker has been recognized in numerous publications, including Chambers, Euromoney, Mondaq, New York Super Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America. In 2007, he was recognized for overall excellence as one of the “Top 100 New York Super Lawyers.” In 2004, The Real Deal profiled him as one of the seven top real estate attorneys in New York whose practice stands out for its focus on capital markets as well as its broad-based focus on client services. He was interviewed in the September/October 2009 issue of Counsel to Counsel regarding the growing role that in-house counsel are playing in credit management. Mr. Shenker received his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1980 and B.S. in Accounting from City University of New York, Brooklyn in 1977.
