Dr. Glen T. Meakem, Ph.D. is a Co-Founder and Managing Director at Meakem Becker Venture Capital, LLC. Prior to Meakem Becker, Dr. Meakem led Meakem Venture Partners. He was Co-Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of FreeMarkets Inc. He took FreeMarkets public in late 1999. He was the Manager in the Corporate Business Development Group of General Electric Co. from 1994 to 1995 and an Associate with McKinsey & Company from 1992 to 1994. At McKinsey, he focused ... on supply management, marketing, operations, and overall strategy. In the late 1980s, he began his career in business holding a range of consumer marketing and product management positions for Kraft-General Foods. He serves as Chairman of the Board of both SEEC and College Prowler. Dr. Meakem sits on the Board of Akustica, College Prowler, Highmark Inc, Rapidbuyr, LLC, HotPads Inc., Schoology, Inc., and Shipwire, LLC. Dr. Meakem serves on the Board of NearVerse In. His civic and philanthropic commitment to the City of Pittsburgh includes serving as a Trustee for The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, The Urban League of Pittsburgh, and the Extra Mile Education Foundation. Dr. Meakem served as a Combat Engineer Officer in the United States Army Reserves. In 1990 and 1991, he volunteered and returned to active duty serving as a platoon leader in the First Gulf War. Dr. Meakem serves as Executive Director at Forever.com Inc. His pioneering work on e-commerce methods and inventions has resulted in eight U.S. patents. Among Dr. Meakem’s numerous awards and honors is an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration from Robert Morris University, the World Economic Forum’s Global Technology Pioneer designation, Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Western Pennsylvania, Syracuse University’s Salzberg Medallion for Exceptional Business Achievement, and the Anti-Defamation League’s National American Heritage Award. He earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1992 after returning from the First Gulf War and graduated A.B. cum laude from Harvard University in 1986.
