In the June 25, 2004 and June 24, 2005 special sections of The Atlanta Business Chronicle, Dr. Agwunobi was featured as one of the 'Most Influential Atlantans' shaping the Atlanta community. he was featured in Atlanta Magazine's 'Atlanta's Top 40 Most Influential People,' one of Georgia Trend magazine's 2005 '100 Most Influential Georgians,' featured in 'Who's Who in Black Atlanta,' and received the Trailblazer Award in May 2005 from The Atlanta Business League. QOLHS recognized his achievements by awarding him its annual 'Certificate of Excellence' award in 1997. In 1998 while at HVMA, Dr. Agwunobi was awarded the Roselyn Kolodny Award for leadership and later that year was awarded a 'Certificate of Service Excellence' for his role in the design, piloting and implementation of a patient 'easy access' initiative, which significantly reduced pediatric patient wait times at HVMA's 14 medical centers. In April 2003, he was awarded the coveted Tenet 'Chief Executive Officer Circle of Excellence Award' - the highest Chief Executive Officer recognition at Tenet. Dr. Agwunobi affiliations include the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Georgia Association of Healthcare Executives, Partners for International Development, the Hospital Executive Council, Leadership Georgia Class of 2005, 100 Black Men of Atlanta and the Rotary Club of Atlanta. He is on the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems for the Association of American Medical Colleges Assembly, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. In 2007, he was named one of the 50 Most Powerful Physician Executives by Modern Healthcare magazine. During his pediatric residency training, he earned a certificate for distinguished academic achievement, and in June 1995 was named pediatric 'resident of the year.' He also practiced as an urgent-care pediatrician at Palo Alto Medical Center. Dr. Agwunobi graduated as a pediatrician from Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. in 1995 and in 1999 he obtained an M.B.A. from Stanford Graduate School of Business. Dr. Agwunobi received a medical degree from the University of Jos in Nigeria.
