He served as the President, Worldwide Agricultural Equipment Division of Deere from September 1999 to January 2000 and Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Region II, Europe, Africa & Middle East of Deere from 1998 to September 1999 and Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Deere from 1996 to 1998. He served as the Chairman of Deere & Co until February 24, 2010. He served as Executive Chairman of Deere & Co. from August 2000 to December 31, 2009. He has been an Independent Director of General Electric Co. since June 10, 2005, Verizon Communications Inc. since March 1, 2004, Northern Trust Corporation since November 1, 2009, Verizon New England Inc. since March 1, 2004 and of John Deere Credit Company since August 2000.
