Background

Ms. Karen Elliott House served as Senior Vice President and Publisher of all print editions of The Wall Street Journal of Dow Jones & Company Inc., from July 2002 to January 2006. Ms. House served as President of Dow Jones' international group from January 1995 to July 2002 and was responsible for the business and editorial staffs of all its overseas publications and services, international sales operations, overseas investments and publishing partnerships. She continues ... to have responsibility for oversight for Dow Jones of CNBC Europe and CNBC Asia Pacific, a business-television partnership of Dow Jones and NBC Universal. Ms. House began her journalism career at the Dallas Morning News. In 1974, she joined the Journal's Washington, D.C., bureau where she covered energy, environment and agriculture. She served as Diplomatic Correspondent of Journal's Washington since 1978, moved to New York in 1983 and served as Assistant Foreign Editor and Foreign Editor since 1984. She served as Vice President of Dow Jones' group from March 1989 to January 1995. She served as Managing Editor of the student newspaper at University of Texas at Austin. Ms. House served as a Director of the Council on Foreign Relations Inc. She has been Chairman of Board of Trustees of The RAND Corporation since April 18, 2013 and served as its Vice Chairman until April 18, 2013. She serves as Member of Global Advisory Council at Wta Tour, Inc. She serves as a Trustee of Boston University and The RAND Corporation. She serves as Trustee Emeritus of Asia Society. She previoulsy served as a Director of The RAND Corporation. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, served as a Trustee of Asia Society and served as a Member of the advisory council for the College of Communication at the University of Texas. In 1992, she received a University of Texas distinguished alumnus award and, in 1996, the University's College of Communication named her outstanding alumnus. She was awarded an honorary degree by Lafayette College, Easton, Penn., in 1992 and Boston University in 2003. In 1984, Ms. House received a Pulitzer Prize in international reporting for her coverage of the Middle East. She was awarded the Overseas Press Club's Bob Considine Award for best daily newspaper interpretation of foreign affairs in 1984 and 1988; the University of Southern California's Distinguished Achievement in Journalism Award in 1983; Georgetown University's Edward Weintal Award for distinguished coverage of American foreign policy in1980; and the National Press Club's Edwin M. Hood Award for Excellence in Diplomatic Reporting for a series on Saudi Arabia in 1982. Ms. House received a Journalism degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
