In 2010, Prof. Kastelein was awarded the prestigious Dutch Heart Association prize of EUR 1 million and in 2011 the ZonMw Parel for his research in the field of gene therapy. Prof. Kastelein was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine (With honours) from the University of Amsterdam; trained in Lipidology and Molecular Biology at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver; and received his Medical degree in 1980 and was trained in Internal Medicine at the Academic Medical Centre from the University of Amsterdam.
