Background

Dr. Jeffrey V. Ravetch, Jeff, M.D., Ph.D, serves as Head of the Leonard Wagner Laboratory of Molecular Genetics and Immunology. Dr. Ravetch Co-founded Macrogenics, Inc. in 2000. He founded Virdante Pharmaceuticals in 2007 and serves as its Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board. He has been Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Xencor, Inc. since June 2009. He serves as Member of Scientific Advisory Board of Cancer Research Institute, Damon Runyon Foundation, The ... Irvington Institute for Immunological Research and Igenica, Inc. As a faculty member of Cornell Medical College, Dr. Ravetch and colleagues in his laboratory cloned the first genes for Fc receptors, identified the SHIP inhibitory receptor signaling pathway, and contributed significantly to understanding the mechanisms of antibody-mediated effector responses, establishing the FcR pathways as fundamental components of the immune response. He is a Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine. He received numerous awards for his groundbreaking research in immunology. Dr. Ravetch served as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board - BiTE Antibody Technology of Micromet, Inc. since March 2008. In 2007, Dr. Ravetch received the 2007 William B. Coley Award for Distinguished Research in Basic and Tumor Immunology. He received the American Association of Immunologists- Huang Foundation Meritorious Career Award in 2005, the Lee C. Howley Sr. Prize for Arthritis Research in 2004 and the Burroughs Wellcome Fund Award in Molecular Parasitology in 1986. He received his B.S. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University in 1973, an PhD from The Rockefeller University - Cornell Medical School in 1978, his M.D. from Cornell University Medical College. His postdoctoral studies were at the National Institutes of Health, where he identified and characterized the genes for the human immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibody and the DNA elements involved in switch recombination.
