Background

Dr. Uma Chowdhry, Ph.D has been Senior Vice President of DuPont Automotive Co. since June 2006. Dr. Chowdhry served as the Chief Science and Technology Officer - Emeritus at EI DuPont de Nemours & Co. since September 2010. Dr. Chowdhry served as Senior Vice President of EI DuPont de Nemours & Co. since June 2006. She served as Chief Science & Technology Officer for EI DuPont de Nemours & Co. from June 2006 to September 1, 2010. She served as Vice President Global, Central ... Research & Development (CR&D) of EI DuPont de Nemours & Co., from August 2002 to June 2006. She joined DuPont in 1977 as a Research Scientist in Central Research & Development at the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington, Del. Dr. Chowdhry worked in CR&D for 11 years in research and management roles. From 1982 to 1999, Dr. Chowdhry held a number of technology and business management roles. She led R&D for Electronics and Specialty Chemicals and also had business management roles for the Microcircuit Materials and Terathane® businesses. In 1999, she was appointed Director of DuPont Engineering's Technology division (DuET). In December 2004, she assumed responsibility for Ei Dupont De Nemours & Co.'s core research programs and the DuPont "APEX" research program. From 1988 to 1992, Dr. Chowdhry served as lab director and business manager in the Electronics Department before she moved to the Chemicals Sector as lab director of Jackson Lab. From 1993 to 1995, she served as R&D director for Specialty Chemicals and was appointed business director for the DuPont™ Terathane® business in 1995. In 1997, Dr. Chowdhry moved back to Specialty Chemicals as business planning and R&D director. She has been a Director of LORD Corporation since August 2010. She has been a Director of Baxter International Inc. since November 2012. Dr. Chowdhry has served on advisory boards of engineering schools at MIT, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University and the University of Delaware as well as on the program advisory board and election subcommittee for the National Academy of Engineering. She has served on the National Research Council's study groups that generate assessment reports on various technology topics of national interest. She was recently elected to the board of directors for the Industrial Research Institute, the national Inventors' Hall of Fame and to a Laboratory Operations Board for the Department of Energy for the US Government. For work ranging from catalysts to superconductors, she was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1996. For her contributions to the science of ceramics, Dr. Chowdhry was elected "Fellow" of the American Ceramic Society in 1989. She was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2003. Dr. Chowdhry is a member of the National Committee on Women in Science and Engineering sponsored by both the National Academies of Science and Engineering since 1999. She serves on several federal government advisory boards and committees of the National Academies and the Department of Education. She is a Member of the Delaware Science and Technology council, and a board member of the Delaware Art Museum. She received B.S. in Physics from Indian Institute of Science, Mumbai University in 1968, an M.S. from Caltech in Engineering Science (California Institute of Technology) in 1970 and a Ph.D. in Materials Science/Engineering from MIT in 1976.
