Dr. Sheila Riggs serves as a Director at Greater Twin Cities United Way since June 2007. Dr. Riggs serves as President and CEO of Delta Dental of Minnesota in July 2005. Dr. Riggs has served as a member of Delta Dental's Board of Directors since 1999. Prior to her new position at Delta Dental, Dr. Riggs was an officer at Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa, where she served as vice president, Stakeholder Consulting in the Division of Marketing and External Relations. ... Her responsibilities included leveraging Wellmark's data assets for the strategic, operational, and financial benefit of Wellmark and its customers. She also served as executive director of the Wellmark Foundation. As Chair of Healthy Iowans 2010, Dr. Riggs led a group of 500 Iowans who created a blueprint for action to improve the health and well being of all Iowans by the year 2010. Dr. Riggs was the founding Dental Director of the Ames, IA Free Dental Clinic, a member of the Board of Directors of the United Way of Central Iowa, and an expert reviewer for the Food and Drug Administration. In 1999, the Governor of Iowa appointed Dr. Riggs to serve on the Board of Directors of the $17 billion Iowa Public Employees Retirement System (IPERS). An Iowa native, Dr. Riggs received her first doctorate degree from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and is licensed to practice dentistry in Iowa. She went on to earn her doctorate of medical sciences (DMSc) in epidemiology from Harvard University. She maintains faculty appointments at her alma maters, is a member of the Board of the YWCA of Minneapolis, and is a frequent guest speaker at local and national events.
