Professor Sir Roy Anderson serves as the Chief Scientific Officer of UK Ministry of Defence. Professor Sir Anderson served as Chief Scientific Advisor of UK Ministry of Defence until September 30, 2007. Professor Sir Anderson serves as a Member of a number of Editorial Boards including the Bulletin of the World Health Organization. He serves as a Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology in the Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College, London. He served as a Linacre Professor at the University of Oxford from 1993 to 2000. Professor Sir Anderson served as a Lecturer, Reader and was a Professor of Imperial College from 1977 to 1984. He served as a Lecturer in Parasitology of King's College London from 1973 to 1977. Professor Sir Anderson has given many public lectures and is widely published. He has published over 450 scientific papers on the epidemiology, population biology, evolution and control of a wide variety of infectious disease agents, including HIV, BSE, vCJD, parasitic helminths and protozoa, and respiratory. tract viral and bacterial infections. His principal research interests are epidemiology, biomathematics, demography, parasitology, immunology and health economics. He also has a keen interest in science policy and the public understanding of science. Professor Sir Anderson is involved in extensive research collaboration in many developed and developing countries and has worked for the European Commission, the Canadian Government and for US National Academies. He has been a Fellow of the Royal Society since 1986 and the Royal Statistical Society since 1987. Professor Sir Anderson is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries. He was a Fellow of Merton College. He was a Research Fellow at Oxford from 1971 to 1973. He received a Knighthood in the Queen's Birthday Honors in June 2006. Professor Sir Anderson received a BSc in Zoology, 1st Class Honours at Imperial College. He was awarded a PhD in Parasitology in 1971.
