Background

Mr. Henry L. King serves as a Senior Counsel at Davis Polk & Wardwell's Litigation Department. Mr. King serves as a Trustee Emeritus at Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute. He was the principal litigator for International Paper, Imperial Chemical Industries, LTV, Morgan Stanley and other clients of the firm for many years. He regularly advised on antitrust issues in the context of mergers and acquisitions as well as litigation. In recent years, he represented such companies, ... or their boards, as Exxon, Bankers Trust, Owens-Illinois, USAir, Metropolitan Life Insurance, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., State Farm Mutual Insurance, the New York Mets, United Airlines and Sotheby's. Mr. King joined Davis Polk in 1951 and became a partner in 1961 and senior counsel in 1998. He was the firm's chairman and managing partner from 1984 to 1996. He graduated from Columbia University in 1948 and in 1951 received his LL.B. from Yale Law School, where he was managing editor of the Yale Law Journal. He is a past president of the New York State Bar Association and a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He served as chairman of the Section on Antitrust Law of the New York State Bar Association and as a member of the Council of the Antitrust Law Section of the American Bar Association. Mr. King is a member of the American Law Institute and the American Judicature Society, a director of the Fund for Modern Courts, and a trustee of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. Mr. King was a trustee of Columbia University, chairman of the board until 1995, and is presently chairman emeritus. He is chairman of the Columbia Presbyterian Advisory Council, New York Academy of Medicine, Citizens Committee for New York City, Episcopal Charities of New York, and the American Skin Association. He is member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
