Following graduation, he joined General Motors, where he held a variety of assignments, including Chief Engineer of Chevrolet, Chief Engineer of Powertrain and Racing at the Buick Division, Director of Advanced Vehicle Engineering, Vice President of GM's Advanced Engineering Staff and Vice President of GM's North American Engineering Center, where he was GM's top engineering executive. He served as Special Advisor of Asia Automotive Acquisition Corp. since June 20, 2005. Mr. Runkle served as the President of Delphi Steering Division since 1993, where he led a significant turnaround and divestiture of uncompetitive assets. He served as a Vice President and President of Delphi Saginaw Division. Since 1996, he served as the President of Delphi Energy & Engine Management Systems Division. From 1998 to 1999, he co-led the IPO and spin-off of Delphi from General Motors. In 2000, he acquired Lucas Diesel and consolidated it with the Energy and Chassis Divisions into a single entity. Mr. Runkle served as an Executive Vice President of Delphi Corporation since 2000 with the responsibility for the Dynamics & Propulsion sector. During his tenure at Delphi, he led many international acquisitions. In 1996, he joined Delphi Corporation where he co-led the IPO process. Mr. Runkle has been the Chairman of EaglePicher Corporation since August 1, 2006 and Senior Executive Advisor of Tennenbaum Capital Partners, LLC. He serves as the Chairman of EaglePicher Pharmaceutical Services LLC and Autocam Corporation. He served as a Vice Chairman of DPH Holdings Corp. since January 1, 2003 until 2005 and served as its Director since 2000. He has been a Member of Strategic Advisory Board of PowerGenix, Inc. since July 2008. He has been a Director of Transonic Combustion, Inc. since May 2010 and of Lear Corp. since November 09, 2009. He serves as a Director of WinCup Corp. and Environmental Systems Products Holdings. He serves as a Member of Advisory Board of ActaCell, Inc. He served as a Director of Asia Automotive Acquisition Corp. since June 20, 2005. He serves as a Director on MIT's Sloan School of Management and James P. Womanck's Lean Enterprise Institute. He has published numerous articles and papers and holds a patent for rotary engine mounting. Mr. Runkle is active in the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Mr. Runkle co-founded with the Department of Energy, the United States Advanced Battery Consortium (USABC). He is a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honorary Society and the Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Honorary Society. He is a life member of the Shingo Academy, which recognizes distinguished manufacturing excellence, a recipient of the Wu Manufacturing Leadership Award, which identifies role models for visionary and strategic thinking manufacturing leaders, Shingo Prize Academy Lifetime Member for distinguished manufacturing excellence and a recipient of the ASM Medal for the Advancement of Research. Mr. Runkle earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Michigan in Mechanical Engineering. He was also a Sloan Fellow and received his Master's Degree in Business Administration/Management Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
