Mr. James Edwin Nevels, J.D. is the Founder, Chairman, and Member of Executive Committee of The Swarthmore Group, Inc. Mr. Nevels founded The Swarthmore Group in 1991. He served as a gubernatorial appointee on that district until 2001. In December 2001, the Governor of Pennsylvania appointed him as the Chairman of the Philadelphia School Reform Commission. The Commission has been charged to oversee the turnaround of the financially distressed Philadelphia School System, the seventh largest school district in the United States. Mr. Nevels is an Honors (Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa) graduate of the Bucknell University and holds an A.B. degree in Political Science and Philosophy and an M.B.A degree from the Wharton School, the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds a J.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, a Doctor of Public Service degree, Honoris Causa, from Saint Joseph’s University, and a Doctor of Public Service degree, Honoris Causa, from Harrisburg University of Science and Technology.
