Ms. Eliza Leighton is a Trustee at Wesleyan University. Eliza Leighton is cofounder and deputy director of Stand For Children, a national, nonpartisan membership organization working to ensure that all children have the opportunity to grow up educated, healthy, and safe. Stand For Children, an affiliate of the Children's Defense Fund, began in 1996 with the largest demonstration for children in American history. Prior to Stand For Children, she worked at the White House ... in the Domestic Policy Council and participated in the Coro Fellowship Program. While at Wesleyan, Ms. Leighton worked at the Long Lane School and tutored at Long River Village. Additionally, she was a senior interviewer, captain of the Woman's Lacrosse Team, a member of the Wesleyan Student Assembly, and a student representative to the Board of Trustees. She graduated with high honors, received a Truman Scholarship, was a finalist for a Rhodes Scholarship, and was awarded the Butterfield and Dorchester Prizes. Ms. Leighton is an active Wesleyan alumna and the treasurer of the Washington, D.C. Alumni Club. Since graduation, she has hosted the Washington, D.C. phonathon, a reception for recent graduates, and students participating in the Winter Externship Program.
