Background

Ronald W. Stovitz has been Secretary of Alumni Associations and Regents Designate at University of California since July 1, 2008 and serves as its President of Alumni Associations and Member of the Governing Board. Judge. Stovitz serves as a Member of the National Advisory Board of the Tamarind Institute of the University of New Mexico. After service in the State Bar of California’s General Counsel’s office and as Counsel to the State Bar Court, he was appointed by the ... Supreme Court of California in 1989 to one of the first full-time judgeships created to decide appeals in all cases of attorney discipline and regulation. He was reappointed in 1995 and 2000 and elevated to the Presiding Judgeship in 2001. He continues to sit on the State Bar Court pro tem in retirement. Judge. Stovitz has served as the President of the National Organization of Bar Counsel and Founding President of the National Council of Lawyer Disciplinary Boards. For more than 20 years, he served as an invited faculty member of the American Bar Association’s Annual Conference on Professional Responsibility. He has also served as an Ex Officio Member of the California Judges Association Ethics Committee and chaired its Electronic Information Committee. He served as the President of the UCR Alumni Association. He serves as a Trustee of the UCR Foundation. Effective July 1, 2009, he serves a one-year term as ex-officio Regent and AAUC President. He also serves as a an Advisory Member of Committee on Investments, Committee on Compensation, and Committee on Educational Policy. He is retired Presiding Judge of the State Bar Court of California. Judge. Stovitz received his B.A. degree in political science in 1964 from University of California, Riverside, and his Juris Doctorate in 1967 from University of Southern California Law School.
