Mr. Richard P. McWilliam, Founded The Upper Deck Company, LLC in 1992 and served as its Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. Mr. McWilliam is a visionary with a keen eye for quality and innovation. With an awareness of the lack of creativity and quality in the sports trading card industry, Mr. McWilliam launched The Upper Deck Company in 1988 and began developing sports products that raised collectibles standards overnight. Mr. McWilliam, an entrepreneur, ... used his business know-how, creative talent and love for sports and technology to turn the start-up company into a sensation. Mr. McWilliam used this momentum to guide it outside its core business into authentic sports memorabilia collectibles, international markets, entertainment and new multi-media product lines. In 1986, Mr. McWilliam sold his practice and served as the Chief Operating Officer for Orange County's second largest medical clinic operation. Mr. McWilliam has been recognized as one of America's fastest rising executives. He was chosen as one of the nation's top emerging entrepreneurs in the "1991 Entrepreneur of the Year" competition sponsored by Inc. Magazine and Ernst & Young. Sporting News also chose him as one of the Top 100 Sports Executives. In 1998, Beckett Baseball named him one of the most influential people in baseball. His passion for making things of the utmost quality and integrity is not limited to the trading card business, however. Under his direction, Upper Deck sponsored the Field of Dreams baseball game, and charity fundraisers hosted by the Baseball Assistance Team. He serves as a Director of The Upper Deck Company, LLC. Mr. McWilliam has a special fondness for kids and has supported youth sports programs and local Boys and Girls Clubs. He also made the dream come true of a Make-A-Wish Foundation youngster whose special wish was to spend a day at Upper Deck. He is a Certified Public Accountant and worked in public accounting for 11 years. Mr. McWilliam holds Bachelor's degrees in Accounting and Economics from California State University at Fullerton. He passed away on January 5, 2013.
